“That is the Scorpion’s endpoint. To live with that kind of intensity. To burn away all pretence. To let nothing be hidden behind walls of fear. To make the unconscious conscious. The aim of the Scorpion, in a word, is to live every minute as if it were the last.”

Scorpio Archetypes:

In Scorpio season, we get the chance to journey into the glittering dark where we can find so much treasure.

Barbie, Scorpio, and the Death card

In a recent Threads of Fate podcast episode –'Death and Scorpio' – there is a conversation between Kira Ryberg and Ashley Quaid about the Death Tarot card and the Barbie movie.

The image above captures Margot Robbie’s Barbie, dancing in a pink party room, at the moment she comes into contact with mortality – the moment that changes the course of her life.

In storytelling terms, something has to be lost (the illusion of immortality) for something new to take its place (a life shaped by death).

In the conversation, Ashley Quaid talks about the connection between Scorpio season and death.

“I think of Scorpio as being a sign of stillness in a way that we don't normally associate with Mars, right? Because Mars is the planet of action and energy, but it's stillness that allows you to kind of gather your strength to strike in an opportune moment. And that time of year, that's what a lot of the plants are doing. Like they are getting rid of stuff to conserve their energy, you know, so that in the future they can come back. But it's not an instant process.”

Astrologer Stephen Forrest writes about Scorpio as a sign that both sharpens and enriches our experience.

“But what if we dare to think it? What if we have the courage to undo the taboo surrounding death? What happens then?  Like the person sharing a sleeping bag with a scorpion, our priorities are clarified. The future disappears. The past evaporates. We are utterly focused on the present moment. Nothing else matters. And in that present moment, all our posturing and politeness, all our phony, comfortable answers, are stripped away. Only truth remains. Like never before, we know who we are and what we want.”

The Scorpio artist and writer Hannah Black talks about her own relationship to Scorpionic creativity.

“Destruction never leaves just a hole, it creates a new situation. On the other hand creation implies a kind of emptiness. At some point, it’s unavoidable, life began from nothing. To me that means you don’t have to have faith, you have to live.”

The archetypes for Scorpio are witchy and intense: sorcerers, detectives, mystics, and witches. As Hannah Black says, “Not everyone dies and gets reborn every day like us, but everyone does it sometimes, in their own way.”

Scorpio season gives us the opportunity to do just that if we choose to.
